Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

This is an examination that tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and science. GATE exam is conducted by Indian Institute of Technologies Indian Institute of Science on behalf of the National Co-ordination Board Department of Higher Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

GATE exam is computer based test. This test has total 65 questions from which some questions carry one mark and some questions carry two marks. There are negative marks for each wrong anwer. Duration of the exam is 3 hours, and GATE score is valid for 3 years. This exam is conducted in the month of Feb. in every year. Score in the examination is used to get admissions to various post-graduate education programs e.g. M.E, M.Tech, Phd. etc. Financial assistance is also provided to the candidates Recently, GATE score is also used by several Indian PSU’S. (Public Sector Undertakings) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry level positions.

Indian Engineering Services (IES)

Indian Engineering Services (IES) examination is conducted annually for selection of officers that meet technical and managerial functions in various fields of Engineering. IES exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

IES exam having 3 stage tests which includes Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Interview.

Preliminary exam has two papers. Paper-I includes General studies + Engineering Aptitude carrying 200 marks includes Preliminary Exam, Mains exam and Interview.

Preliminary exam includes one paper; which is having two sections. Section-I : carries questions from technical knowledge which carries 60 marks. and section-II : having questions from Marathi/ English/& GS. carries 40 marks. That means preliminary exam is of 100 marks. Preliminary exam is objective type exam which is conducted on offline mode.

Second stage of MES exam is Mains, which is also objective exam, carrying two papers, each paper having 200 marks. Last stage of exam is Interview, which is carrying 50 marks.

Preliminary exam is in qualifying in nature and final selection of the candidate is based on marks obtained in Mains exam and Interview.

Other Engineering Services Exams

Other than GATE, IES, MES exams various departmental exams are also conducted by various Duration of Paper-I is 2 hours. Paper-II includes technical test, which is branch specific carrying 200 marks and duration of paper is 3 hours. The candidates who are selected in Preliminary exam are eligible for Mains exam which is written exam carrying two written papers, each paper carries – 300 Marks and duration of exam is 3 hours. Those are selected in written exam (Mains exam) are eligible for Interview. This Interview carries – 200 Marks. The final selection of the candidate is based on the total marks obtained by candidate in all three stages.

Maharashtra Engineering Services (MES)

Maharashtra Engineering Services (MES) exam is conducted annually for selection of officers, that meet technical and managerial functions in various fields of Engineering. MES exam is conducted by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).

MES exam having 3 stage tests which departments like Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector (AMVI) Exam which is conducted by MPSC, BMC, Sub Engineer and Junior engineer exam, DRDO. Junior engineer exam etc. Structure of the some of the above exams as discussed below.

Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspecter (AMVI)

This exam is popularly known as RTO exam which is conducted by (MPSC) Maharashtra Public Service Commission. AMVI Exam having two stage tests which includes Preliminary exam and Mains Exam. Both stage are objective based.

Preliminary exam having one paper, which includes 3 sections like General studies, Aptitude and Advanced terends in Automobile and Mechanical Engineering. After selection in preliminary stage candidate is eligible for Mains exam which is also objective exam. This stage includes test of technical knowledge only in the field of Mechanical Engg. and Automobile Engineering.

Final selection of the candidate is based on score obtained by the candidate in Mains exam.

Various other exams also conducted by various departments like PWD, BMC, DRDO on senior or junior level.
