Parliament passes Bill to provide 10% quota for poor

Why it is in news?
  • Parliament cleared the Constitutional Amendment Bill guaranteeing 10% quota in education and employment to economically weaker sections in the general category, following an approval by the Rajya Sabha.
Constitutional Amendment Bill
  • The Constitution Amendment Bill is provided by the Article 368 of the constitution.
  • Such bill can be introduced in either House of Parliament.
  • Provisions are as follows for this types of bills:
    1. A majority of the total membership of that House and also by.
    2. A majority of not less than two thirds of members present and voting.
    3. There is no provision for joint sittings for such bills.
    4. President must give his assent to this bill
