U.S. moves to get China’s support for listing Azhar

Why is it in news?
  • The United States is working to convince China to allow the listing of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) Chief Masood Azhar by the UNSC 1267 Committee.

  • US pressure on Pakistan:
    (1) U.S. felt India’s frustration and that Pakistan has been isolated over the February 14 Pulwama attack and its aftermath.
    (2) The U.S. was looking for permanent action by Pakistan to end its support for terror.
  • India on Pakistan’s recent actions:
    (1) Pakistan is putting strictures against the Jaish-e-Mohammad and seizing properties belonging to the Jamaat-ud-Dawa and the Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation.
    (2) Rejecting Pakistan’s actions as the “same script” it had followed after previous terror attacks in India, the India demanded “credible, verifiable and sustained” action to shut down terror infrastructure on its territory.
