Why in news?
- Bannerghatta National ParkThe Bannerghatta National Park’s Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ), which provides a regulated buffer zone around protected areas, will remain at 168.84 sqkm despite thousands of citizens objecting to the reduction of nearly 100 sqkm as compared to the original proposal.

- What is the Issue:(1) First draft notification issued in 2016 which had marked an ESZ area of 268.9 sqkm.(2) Now in 33rd ESZ Expert Committee meeting of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) recommended ESZ area of 168.84 sqkm around BNP.
- About BNP:(1) Located near Bangalore, Karnataka, was founded in 1970 and declared as a national park in 1974.(2) Elephant sanctuary: Bannerghatta is the first biological park in India to have a fenced forested elephant sanctuary.(3) In 2002 a portion of the park, became a biological reserve.(4) On 25 November 2006, it became India's first butterfly enclosure at the park.
