Probe agencies see similarities in murder of two rationalists

Why in news?
  • Investigating agencies told the Bombay High Court that they found some commonalities in the way rationalists Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar were murdered.

  • Countrywide operation will be carried out:
    (1) The Central Bureau of Investigation’s special investigation team (CBI SIT) is investigating the Dabholkar murder.
    (2) The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) is probing the Pansare murder.
    (3) Countrywide operation will be carried out within a month to search for the four country-made pistols used to kill Dabholkar.
    (4) It is believed that the pistols were dismantled and thrown in a creek next to Thane.
  • Background:
    (1) Mr. Dabholkar, a well-known anti-superstition activist, was shot dead on August 2013 in Pune.
    (2) Mr. Pansare was shot on February, 2015 near his house in Kolhapur in western Maharashtra.
