Why is it in news?
  • The government is likely to waive mandatory educational qualification for truckers and bus drivers seeking driver’s licence.
  • Present rule mandate drivers to have passed class 8.
  • Apart from ushering employment opportunities for a large number people the move is to also meet shortage of 22 drivers in the transport and logistics sector.
  • The relaxation is applicable for drivers of medium and heavy transport vehicles, which include trucks, State transport, school and private buses.
