  • NIA will additionally investigate offences related to human trafficking, counterfeit currency, manufacture or sale of prohibited arms, cyber-terrorism, and offences under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
  • NIA officers the power to investigate offences committed outside India.
  • Central government to designate sessions courts as special courts for speedy trials.
  • About NIA
(1) NIA is a statutory body formed under the National Investigation Agency Act of 2008.
(2) It functions as the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India.
(3) The agency is empowered to deal with terror related crimes across states without special permission from the states.
(4) Headquartered in New Delhi, the NIA has branches in HyderabadGuwahatiKochiLucknowMumbaiKolkataRaipur and Jammu.
