
Exclusive courts for child abuse cases
Why is it in the news?
- The Supreme Court directed the government to set up special courts in those districts where more than 100 cases of sexual offences against children are pending.

- These special courts, to be set up under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
- These courts will only hear sexual assault cases against children and will ensure speedy trial.
- The apex court passed the order in a suo motu examination of rising rape cases against children.
- The Supreme court directed that the courts to be set up within 60 days.
- They will be established under a Central scheme and fully funded by the Centre.
- This means the Centre would fund everything from the payment of the presiding officers, staff and support persons to the court’s child-friendly infrastructure.
