Lok Sabha endorses ending Special status of J&K

Why in news?
  • The Centre’s decisions of reorganising the state of J&K into two Union Territories ending its special status under Article 370 and 35 (A) was subscribed by Lok Sabha.
  • The resolution for ending the special status and the Bill for creation of two UT’s had already been approved by the Rajya Sabha.

(1) Restoration of full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir if the situation improves.
(2) Engagement with local population over the issue.
(3) Govt reiterated India’s claim over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
  • One of the reasons for withdrawal of the special status of J&K was: Denial of rights to minorities, who dint have right to vote.
