Madras HC deletes para on Christian missionaries

Why in news?
  • In pursuance with PM’s I-Day speech, Centre has asked all milk cooperatives and private dairies to halve plastic usage by  October 2.
More in news
  • Such as measure could be undertaken by
(1) subsidising one litre packs to discourage the use of 500 ml packs
(2) offering a rebate to customers who return the plastic pouches which can then be recycled.
  • The milk industry is one of the largest users of single use plastics.
  • There is a growing use of disposable pouches replacing milk vendors and vending machines in many areas.
  • Justice Vaidyanathan also mentioned about the feeling among parents, especially of girl children, that co-educational Christian institutions were “highly unsafe for the future of their children.
  • Justice Vaidyanathan has agreed to remove the paragraph from his verdict and directed the High Court Registry to issue a fresh copy of the order after removing the particular paragraph.

(1) Observations detrimental to the interest of all Christian institutions.
(2) They were in no way connected to the case decided by the court on merits.
(3) One or two incidents need not become a reason to form such a general opinion.
