NRC Conundrum

(a) The NGO plans to set up a fact finding committee and suggest rectification if violation of children’s rights was found.
(b) 2018 report, Amnesty International stated children’s were detained with out access to counselling.
(c) A 2018 National Human Rights Commission report on Assam’s detention centres underlined the need for caring and protecting children of “foreigners” in detention camps under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
  • Center extending help in
(1) Create e-Foreigners’ Tribunals
(2) Increase the number of Foreigners’ Tribunals from the existing 100 to 1,000.
  • Foreigner Tribunals
(1) They are quasi-judicial establishments.
(2) Headed by members who are lawyers and retired judges and bureaucrats
(3) At least 200 of the additional Foreigners’ Tribunals are expected to be set up by September in Assam.
