PMJAY to offer Tele-consultation

Why is it in the news ?
  • The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) health insurance scheme is set to offer teleconsultation services to its patients soon.
  • The move is part of the Centre’s plans to widen the coverage of the scheme and thus reduce the incidence of health expenditures.
More in the news
  • Along with reducing the health expenditure, it will also improve access and quality of health services in the public and private sectors.
  • A pilot is being done in Gujarat.
  • After the due security audit, it will be rolled out in all functional Ayushman Bharat- Health & Wellness Centres (AB-HWC).
  • Currently there are more than 21,000 AB-HWCs.
  • PM-JAY:
(1) It is the flagship scheme of the government with an aim to bring quality healthcare to around 50 crore poor and vulnerable Indians.
(2) The scheme gives annual healthcare benefits of up to ₹5 lakh for every entitled family.
(3) PM-JAY provides cashless and paperless access to services for the beneficiary at the point of service.
