Tuberculosis Cases Increased
Why is it in the news ?
- Over 21.5 lakh cases of Tuberculosis (TB) were notified in 2018 under the Revised National Tuberculosis Programme (RNTCP).
- There is an increase of roughly 17.9 per cent compared to 2017.

- The estimated TB incidence in India stands at 27 lakh.
- The Health Ministry launched an all-oral regimen kit for multi-drug resistant TB patients, which does not include injections.
- The Ministry announced a partnership with the World Bank, which is providing $400 million credit for accelerating TB response in 9 States.
- National Tuberculosis Control Programme:
- Vision : TB - Free India with zero deaths, disease and poverty due to tuberculosis.
- Goal : To achieve a rapid decline in burden of TB, morbidity and mortality while working towards elimination of TB in India by 2025.
