Why is it in the news ?
  • Miners of Ganj Basoda district in Madhya Pradesh appealed to the government for right treatment, instead of being treated for tuberculosis.
  • The miners are suffering from silicosis.
More in the news
    • Around 10,000 miners from 40 villages in the district have been facing the threat of the respiratory disease.
    • Recently, two children, aged 12 and 14 years, died of silicosis in the village.
    • About the Silicosis Disease:
      (1) It is an occupational disease.
      (2) Silicosis is more prevalent among miners who are exposed to dust containing crystallised silica.
      (3) Over time, it could build up in lungs, cause bloody coughing and breathlessness.
