Humans pollute more than volcanoes

Why in news?
  • Scientists from Deep Carbon observatory released series of papers outlining how carbon is stored, emitted and reabsorbed by natural and man made processes.
More in news
  • Volcanoes which belch out gas are often considered a major climate change contributor to current warming rates.
  • However in the published papers it was said that, man made emissions in 2018 was approx 37 giga tonnes, where as volcanoes annually emitted 0.3 to 0.4 giga tonnes.
  • It also noted that modern man made emissions were the same magnitude as past carbon shocks that precipitated mass extinction.
