First Private train violates Railway tariff law
Why in news?
- Country’s first private train “Tejas Express” flagged off on Lucknow-Delhi-Lucknow route, charged a higher fare than Shatabdi Express and other trains on the same route

- Issue:
(1) IRCTC - commercial tourism and catering arm of indian railways, is entrusted with the task of operating two premium trains(Tejas Express) on Lucknow-Delhi- Lucknow and Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Mumbai route
(2) Tariff fixed were higher with hardly any change in running time
(3_) Violated the Railway Act 1989, as per which central government is the central authority to decide tariffs and not IRCTC.
(4) 100% Tejas tickets available only online : violates the rule book because as per the law there has to be a counter at railway station with working hours displayed.
