  • Index of industrial production(IIP) contracted by 4.3 per cent in September.

  • The decline was steeper than the 1.4% reduction seen in August.

(1) It firming up expectations of further monetary easing next month with scant signs of a turnaround.
(2) It highlights the persistent structural slowdown in the economy.
