More in news
- LS recently passed the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2019:
(1) It continues the reservation of seats for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for another 10 years, till January 25, 2030.
(2) Reservation was to end in 2020: Reservation for SCs, STs and Anglo-Indians given for the past 70 years in the LS and the Assemblies was due to end on Jan 25, 2020.
(3) Reservation for Anglo-Indians will expire: the reservation in the form of “nomination” is set to expire on January 25 as the Bill does not extend the facility to the community.
