CAB gets the assent of President
Why in news?
- Citizenship (Amendment) Bill got the assent of President Ram Nath Kovind, even as violent protests against it continued in several districts in the Brahmaputra Valley. An indefinite curfew was imposed in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tezpur.
More in news
- The government also extended the suspension of mobile Internet and data services in the affected districts by 48 hours.
- Educational institutions in the affected districts have been closed till December 22 and the examinations have been postponed.
- Air, train and bus services were cancelled.
