Land revenue receipt, PAN not proof of citizenship: Gauhati HC
Why in news?
- Land revenue-paying receipt, permanent account number (PAN) card and bank documents do not prove the citizenship of a person, the Gauhati High Court has observed.

- The observation was made while dismissing a writ petition filed against the order passed by a Foreigners’ Tribunal at Tamulpur in western Assam’s Baksa district which had declared the petitioners a foreigner who had entered Assam after 1971, the cut-off year for detection and deportation of illegal immigrants according to the Assam Accord of August 1985.
