Punjab CM orders panel to look into Sukhna Lake issue

  • Asserting that his government would take all legislative and judicial remedies to protect the interests of the people, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered the constitution of a committee to evolve a comprehensive strategy in the light of the High Court order relating to the demolition in the Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake area

  • About Sukhna Lake:
(1) Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, India, is a reservoir at the foothills (Shivalik hills) of the Himalayas
(2) This 3 km² rainfed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills.
(3) Originally the seasonal flow entered the lake directly causing heavy siltation.
