India to build infrastructure projects along China Border of 3488 km

  • Government decided to spend 10% of BADP on China border projects

  • Border Area Development Programme (BADP)
  • started in 1980 for western border
  • expanded in 16 states and 2 UTs
  • 10% of BADP – focus on projects in areas - Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim.
  • Projects include Construction of roads, bridges, culverts, primary schools, health infrastructure, playfields, irrigation works, mini-stadiums, indoor courts for basketball, badminton and table tennis
  • Border Guarding Forces will chose the projects
  • Acc to guidelines, no private organization or NGO could be hired for infrastructure projects
  • Forces deployed
    • BSF – along Bangladesh and Pakistan border
    • ITBP – China border
    • Sahastra Seema Bal – Nepal border
    • Assam Rifles – Myanmar border
