
Nothing will go out of ISRO; we will enable private players: K. Sivan
Why is it in News?
- IN-SPACe is the new space entity created to promote and regulate participation of private players in the space sector.

- IN-SPACe stands for Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre.
- Where it stands in space hierarchy?
(1) It is a parallel mechanism to ISRO under department of space.
(2) Its independent of ISRO.
(3) The Space Commission is the apex body controlling space activities in India; it will remain so and above the IN-SPACe.
(4) Like ISRO, IN-SPACe will report to space commission.
- Composition
(1) Will have its own chairman (different from ISRO)
(2) It will initially have three to four directorates doing their own job — in technical, legal, security and safety domains.
(3) The directors, i.e. the heads of the directorates, will be board members.
(4) In addition representatives of the academia and industry will also be its members
- Location
(1) Bangalore for purpose of ease of operations as DoS is located there.
- Functions
(1) Routine aspects & Earth observation will come under it.
(2) Advanced activities such as satellites and launch vehicles will still be handled by ISRO.
- Position of NSIL (Newspace India ltd)
(1) Formed in Mar 2019
(2) Will be under DoS, but little lower in hierarchy than ISOR and IN-SPACe
