
Solar energy will play big role in ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’: PM

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi said solar energy would play a major role in achieving self-reliance in energy.
- It is essential for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).
Detail:
- PM Inagurated a 750 MW solar power project in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh.
- PM said that solar energy would be a big medium for the energy needs of the 21st century.
- According to PM, we won’t be able to use solar power entirely unless we have:
(1) Improved solar panels
(2) Improved batteries
(3) Best quality storage.
Solar energy is sure, pure and secure: PM
- Sure because other sources of energy can be exhausted, but the sun will continue to shine.
- Pure because instead of polluting the environment, it helps in protecting it.
- Secure because it’s a huge symbol, inspiration for Atmanirbhar Bharat.
India's Renewable Targets:
- The Government of India has set a target of installing 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2022.
- It includes 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from bio-power and 5 GW from small hydro-power.
