Parents cannot interfere in lives of married couple : HC
Why is it in news?
- Nobody, including the parents of a man and woman, can interfere in the couple's married life and their living together if the two individuals are of legal age, the Allahabad High Court has noted.
- The court passed the order on November 14 while considering a writ petition filed by a couple seeking direction to their parents and others to not interfere in their married life and also for protection of their lives and liberty.
- The couple expressed apprehension that one of their relatives could eliminate them for the honour of the man’s family and submitted that their lives were in danger.
- The court noted that both the petitioners are “major” and have “solemnised their marriage out of their own sweet and free will”.
Validity of marriage
- The court, however, said it had not adjudicated upon the alleged marriage of the petitioners.
- The two submitted themselves as husband and wife.
- This order in no way expresses opinion about the validity of their marriage and genuineness of their marriage certificate, if any
