  • Provisions of the proposed Amendments
(1) Amendments seeks to provide a compensation of INR 5 lakh for death and INR 2.5 lakh for grievous injury in a motor vehicle accident case.
(2) Bill seeks to increase penalties for violations of traffic norms.
(3) Facilitates grant of online learning licence.
(4) Simplified provisions for insurance to provide expeditious help to accident victims and their families.
(5) Protection of good samaritans.
(6) Raise the time limit for renewal of driving licence from one month to one year before and after the expiry date.
  • Resistance to the Amendments
  • MP's have raised their concerns over infringement of powers of the State governments.
  • The Minister has responded by stating that provisions in the legislation are not binding on States and it is up to them to implement it.
