Perceptional differences over India-China border: Rajnath Singh

Why is it in news?
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday told the Lok Sabha that there are “perceptional differences” between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the border issues but the two countries have a mechanism that prevents any escalation of conflict.

  • Line of Actual Control (LAC)
(1) Line of Actual Control is the effective military border which separates Indian controlled areas of Jammu and Kashmir from Aksai Chin.
(2) It is the effective border between People’s Republic of china and India
(3) Length: 4057 kms approx.
(4) Areas: It touches Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himanchal and Sikkim of Indian states.
(5) It is not a legally recognized international boundary, but rather it is the practical boundary.
