Why is it in the news?
  • The ministry of civil aviation has now launched round 4 of UDAN regional connectivity scheme.
More in the news
  • Under UDAN 4, the north eastern region, hill states of himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, islands of Lakshadweep and Andamans will be treated as priority areas.
  • About the Scheme:
(1) UDAN(Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a regional airport development and "Regional Connectivity Scheme" (RCS) of Government of India.
(2) The scheme envisages providing connectivity to un-served and under-served airports of the country through revival of existing air-strips and airports.
(3) UDAN is a scheme to develop the regional aviation market.
(4) UDAN 2.0 to focus on overseas flights
(5) UDAN 2 will allow the state governments to provide subsidy for international flights to be launched from their states.
