Why is it in news?
  • Several activists and student leaders coming forward on behalf of EVM Virodhi Rashtriya Jan Andolan were questioning legitimacy of EVMs used during the recently held Lok Sabha election

  • In a response to an RTI application which stated that the chips used in EVMs come with a flash memory indicating to the possibility of rewritability of the chips has sparked demand for paper ballot system among the activists.
  • The activists raise a question over VVPAT's as not 100% counting was not done.
  • As with every all machines EVMs are not devoid of manipulation stated by an activist.
  • Demanding return to paper ballot to ensure faith and transparency in the electoral process the activists stated to work toward raising awareness among the people over the issue.
