
Alert issued against insulin pumps
Why in news
- Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) which is the apex drug regulator, issued an alert after has noted that some models of insulin pumps are vulnerable to hackers.

- Earlier this week U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also warned about cybersecurity risks attached to insulin pumps manufactured by American medical equipment supplier Medtronic.
- An unauthorised person with technical skills and equipment could potentially connect wirelessly to a nearby insulin pump to change the settings and control insulin delivery.
- Advisory by CDSCO(1) to check and see if the model and software version of their insulin pump is affected.(2) Keeping the insulin pump within the control of patients and caregivers.(3) Not share their pump serial number and be attentive to pump notifications, alarms and alerts.
