“Gujarat” Tops Again

Why in news?
  • An analysis by the NITI Aayog has revealedcompared to last year 13 statehave shown improvement in their water management practices.
  • With a score of 75 out of 100 Gujarat has topped the rankings for the second year in a row.

(1) It is a tool to rank states and Union Territories developed by the NITI Aayog last year.
(2) The ‘index’ aims at capturing how well States have done
(a) On groundwater and surface water restoration,
(b) Implementing major and medium irrigation projects,
(c) Watershed development,
(d) Participatory irrigation management
(e) On-farm water use
(f) Rural and urban water supply
(g) Policy and governance
          (3) These indicators were broken down into 28 objective indicators.
