Why in news
- The Lok Sabha passed the Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2019, enabling the government to extend the tenure of the Board of Governors for a further period of one year with effect from May 17, 2019.

- Board of Governors comprising eminent doctors and administrators are entrusted with day to day affairs of the Central Homoeopathy Council (CHC), extension of tenure is provided till such time that the council is reconstituted.
- The bill will replace an ordinance issued by the previous NDA government.
- The Opposition opposes the government for taking the ordinance route and reducing the status of the House to merely a rubber stamp that passes ordinance after ordinance.
