NRCsecurity regime alike Aadhaar

Why in news?
  • The Supreme Court directed Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) authorities to enact a security regime.
  • A regime similar to the Aadhaar data protection.

  • The security mechanism is to be established before furnishing the NRC list to Centre, Government of Assam and the Registrar General of India.
  • The SC direction are based on concerns raised by State NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela in the court.
  • The Court further ordered
(1) Only hard copies of the supplementary list of inclusions be published at the NRC Seva centres, circle offices and offices of the District Magistrates of the State.
  • The List of Exclusions to be published on 31 Aug 2019 only online with family wise data.
  • Orders under Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunal) Act should be challenged in the Guwahati High Court.
  • The court ageerring to suggestions made by Mr. Hajela ordered that those people
(a) born before December 3, 2004 may be included in the NRC if
(1) The parent through whom legacy is drawn is not a declared foreigner (DF) or D Voter (DV) or
(2) Whose case of nationality is pending before a foreigner tribunal (PFT).
(3) Such persons can be included in the NRC even if the other parent is a DF or PFT.
(b) born on or after December 3, 2004would not be included in NRCeven if any of the parent is DV or DF or PFT.
