Why in news?
- Experts from India, Nepal and Bhutan under the aegis of their governments will next year begin a detailed assessment on how entrenched tigers are in high altitude regions.

- A report by experts had established that there were potentially 52,671sq kms of tiger habitat in high altitudes i.e himalayan habitats of India, Nepal and Bhutan. 38,915sq Km lay in India.
- While India is home to most no. of tigers in the world , most of them are focussed in Central India and Western ghats.
- As per latest survey india is home to 2,967 tigers
- Potential high altitude tiger landscapes include:
(1) Valmiki-Chitwan-Annapurna (India-Nepal)
(2) Manas-Royal Manas-Jigme Dorji (India-Bhutan)
(3) Neora Valley-Torsa-Buxa-Phibsu (India-Bhutan)
(4) Askot-Pithoragarh-Nandhaur-Suklaphanta (India-Nepal)
(5) Arunachal-Sikkim-Bordering Bhutan
