  • The Supreme Court  requested the search committee on Lokpal  to recommend by the end of February a panel of names for appointing the country’s first anti-graft ombudsman.

Appointment of Lokpal

  • According to the Lokpal Act, the chairperson and members shall be appointed by the President.
  • It is on the basis of recommendations of the selection committee comprising:

1)  Prime Minister,

 2)  Speaker of the Lok Sabha,

 3) Leader of Opposition in the House,

  • Chief Justice of India
  •  An eminent jurist.
