Citizenship Bill may have to wait for House nod

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is unlikely to be tabled in the monsoon session of Parliament as the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that is examining the legislation intends to have wider consultations.

Regulating medical education

The National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2017 which seeks to regulate medical education and practice, and replace the Medical Council of India, ran into rough weather in January when the medical fraternity protested against it, terming the Bill as “anti-poor”.

Rupee hits 15-month low

The rupee plunged below the 67-mark to close at a 15-month low of 67.13 against the US dollar as crude oil prices zoomed past the $75 per barrel level and demand for the dollar surged.
