  • Supreme Court has continued its stay on the eviction of lakhs of Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers.
  • These are the people whose claims for forest land rights have been rejected under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) of 2006.

  • Further the court said that those mighty and the undeserving encroaching upon forest land will not be shown mercy.
  • More than 11 lakh people from the STs and OTFDs across 16 States had faced the brunt of the Supreme court’s February 13 eviction order.
  • The February 13 eviction order was stayed on February 28 after the Centre moved the Supreme court to modify the former order.
